It just happens, one day my favorite silver bracelet is nice and shiny and new, the next it looks like my grandmother’s piece that she’s had in her jewelry box for 40 years. A few days ago, I took inventory of what needed a good cleaning and started looking online at jewelry cleaners. $50 dollars? And for something that’s going to take up space and get used a few times a year? Forget it, here’s a simple way to clean your silver jewelry with stuff that’s in every household. I just cleaned a bunch of pieces and wish I had taken before and after pictures. My Tiffany knot earrings, a gift from my friends Cheryl and Jen years ago, were so tarnished I couldn’t wear them, now they’re brand new again!
Line a small bowl (like a cereal bowl) with aluminum foil
Microwave 1 cup of water for about 1-2 minutes
Poor water into bowl
Take 1 tbs of baking soda, 1 tbs of salt and 1 tbs of dishwashing detergent and add to bowl.
Add jewelry and wait 5-10 minutes
Remove from bowel and rinse with cold water
Dry off with soft towel
It’s that easy!
